Power Star Dr Srinivasan – Kollywood’s Santosh Pandit? (Tamil/Malayalam)

Power Star Dr Srinivasan
Santosh Pandit

Remember Santosh Pandit? It looks as if Kollywood has found its version of the actor who made a film that people refused to watch on pirated DVDs simply because they just had to go to the theatres and hoot/howl/whistle/make catcalls until their lungs and vocal cord went sore.

Businessman-turned-doctor-turned-actor Dr Srinivasan (there are lots of turns and turns and turns in his career) is doing something similar with his loud and hilarious statements. But unlike Santosh Pandit, this actor makes headlines for his ridiculous quotes one day and the very next day, he gets arrested as part of the emu farm scam.

This set off more jokes based on the film’s title and his arrest. It was a smart move on the part of the film’s producers to bring in this actor to play one of the important roles in ‘Kannaa Laddu Thinna Aasaiya’ (KLTA).

KLTA, the Pongal release that stars Dr Srinivasan, who calls himself Kollywood’s Power Star (not to be confused with Power Star Pawan Kalyan), is the remake of a K Bhagyaraj film.

There was some intellectual property rights misunderstandings between K Bhagyaraj and the people behind KLTA. It turns out that the producer of KLTA had bought the remake rights from the producer of the original film, but the director was not informed and his consent therefore was not obtained.

It looks as if the issue was resolved temporarily because the film has hit the theatres. The mixed response that ‘Alex Pandian’ (this actually deserves a separate post) has received at the box office has turned out to be an advantage for KLTA.

Interesting!
