Get Ready for ‘Singam 3’!!!

Sequels don’t usually work in Tamil, but the ‘Singam’ franchise seems to be a big exception to the rule. After a phenomenally successful ‘Singam’, followed by its first sequel, ‘Singam 2’, director Hari and Suriya are likely to soon launch the third part of the film, says Dinamalar. This time, Suriya is going to star as an undercover cop.

Official announcements are expected soon.

Trouble brewing for Ilaya Thalapathy Vijay’s Superstar celebrations

Dinamalar reports that Ilaya Thalapathy Vijay’s Superstar crowning celebrations have been temporarily postponed.

A poll was conducted by a Tamil weekly magazine to find out who the next box office superstar was. Vijay reportedly won the polls. The magazine was planning to crown him as the next superstar in a pretty lavish function that was going to be held on August 15, in Madurai.

Not surprisingly, other actors and actresses are hesitant to participate in the function. Some don’t want to antagonize Rajnikanth, the Superstar, who is very much active in movies and continues to enjoy phenomenal clout. Others don’t want to offend Ajith or destroy his goodwill. Most have politely turned down the invites to the function, citing busy schedules and previous appointments.

You might remember that Trisha got herself in a what-the-****-was-that controversy when she didn’t recite the names of all the lead heroes at the same time while replying to the question on who her favorite co-star was. Vijay’s fans were very annoyed that his name was uttered fifth on her list of favorite heroes she would like to work with. Ajith was the first name on her list.

Maybe she was reciting the names alphabetically.

3 Dozen Tamil Films, Including 'Anjaan', Lined up for August Release

Did Samantha have a big lunch before filming this song or is she pregnant according to the story???

Kollywood is going through an overdrive of sorts. Unconfirmed reports say that there are more than 36 films ready to hit the theatres in August, to make up for the lost month of Aadi (mid-July to mid-August), and to make the most of the Independence Day weekend.

The fact that heroine Amala Paul has got married hasn’t quite affected the fate of her recently released film ‘Vellai Illa Pathadhari’ with Dhanush. The film is doing good business, along with ‘Sadhuranga Vettai’, which was released on the 18th of July. One of the reasons is the lack of serious competition from any other films.

Suriya-starrer ‘Anjaan’ is one of the big-budget flicks on the list. Here are some of the other films expected to hit the theatres in August –

‘Kadhai Thiraikadhai Vasanam, Iyakkam’
‘Jigarthanda’
‘Aranmanai’
‘Ainthaam Thalaimurai Siddha Vaidhiya Sigamani
Vaaliba Raja
‘Madras’
‘Chandiyar’
'Snehavin Kaadhalargal'
'Vaalu'
‘Hercules Returns’ (dubbed)
‘The Expendables 3’ (dubbed)

Jyothika Turns Down Suriya Movie Offer

Jyothika (Wikimedia Commons)

Unlike other actresses who claim that they don’t intend to act after getting married, but waste no chance to make here-and-there appearances in films, former heroines like Shalini and Jyothika are worth special mentions. These are young women who had pretty promising careers but once they got married, they simply restricted their media appearances to an occasional photo or two with their husbands.

This is one about Jyothika.

Suriya is the producer and lead actor of the new film that Pandiraj is directing. Pandiraj wanted to get Jyothika to star in an important role in the film. She refused. Reports now say that Bindu Madhavi is going to play the role.

(Meanwhile, Pandiraj’s other film stars Simbu and Nayantara in the lead roles.)

Actress Rambha, family accused of dowry harassment

Rambha’s sister-in-law has filed a complaint with the Banjara Hills police that the actress, along with her family members, was harassing her for dowry.

In her complaint Rambha’s with the Banjara Hills cops, Pallavi, the wife of Rambha’s brother, P Srinivas Rao, claimed that her husband and his family members, including the parents, Venkateshwar Rao and Usha Rani, have been harassing her for more dowry. She said that her husband became addicted to liquor after incurring business loss, and upon the instigation of his family, including the well known actress who is now married to a Canada-based businessman, he began harassing her to bring more dowry from her parents.

Pallavi and Srinivas got married in 1999. Six months ago, she returned to Hyderabad to live with her parents.

Why are South Indian heroines reluctant about ‘Queen’ remake?

Bollywood hit film ‘Queen’ was a surprise hit of recent times. The film is about a small-town girl who gets stood up by her groom-to-be on the wedding day, and is so upset over it that she decides to go on her honeymoon all by herself. A trip to Europe was what she had planned and booked the tickets for, but she goes all alone. After meeting some, well, predictably good characters, she returns home a very different person. Different, for all the right reasons.

Despite everything, the film is very engaging and watchable.

So then, actor-director-film producer Thyagarajan bought the Tamil remake rights of the film and since then, he has been looking for a heroine. Three names have already made the rounds – Samantha, Trisha, and, as usual, Asin. None of them has given the nod.

Maybe they don’t want to star as the bride who gets stood up or maybe they are wary after seeing the fate of ‘Nee Enge, En Anbey’, another Bollywood hit remake (of ‘Kahaani’), that crashed at the box office. Personally I feel the film could have worked had the title been different.
